Today is undoubtedly a very difficult day for the world of hard rock and heavy metal. Gone far too soon, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most unique, incredible and technically-sound players to have ever graced heavy metal music and inspiring guitarists from all over the world.
Born in Annis, Texas on August 20th 1966, Darrell Lance Abbott was destined for greatness from the moment his fingers ever touched a fretboard. From an early age being inspired by artists such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top & Eddie Van Halen, to name a few, Dimebag incorporated those influences into a soulful, technical, groove-driven style of guitar playing that continue to influence guitarists, bands and musicians all over the world.
As sons of both Jerry and Carolyn, the Abbott Bros., Vinny and Darrell brought their incredible technique and musicianship to the band Pantera that would inevitably impact the world of heavy metal for years to come. Pantera is undeniably the unofficial #5 to that of The Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer).
Today, we celebrate Darrell’s life and the legacy he leaves behind for the future generations of rock and metal guitarists to come.
Gone, but not forgotten, the late, great Mr. Dimebag Darrell Abbott lives in all of our hearts forever!
